1. Meeting the Friends
When I started dating Eli I was so nervous about introducing him to my friends. My friends are like family to me. They are the brothers and sisters I never had. They are around for every big occasion and most of them have been in my life since day one. I wanted Eli to fit right into my group of friends and I wanted them to love him. What would I do if this guy I really like doesn't love my friends or they don't love him? Could I be with someone that doesn't get along with them? Meeting the friends could make or break a relationship which in my mind makes it a big step!
2. Meeting the Parents
Just like meeting the friends, meeting the parents is a big moment! Everyone is different but I personally wouldn't be comfortable dating someone my parents didn't like. When I bring a guy home it symbolizes that I am really invested in this relationship and I want them to get to know this person and love them. For some this may not be a big deal, but I think it really shows how serious you are about this new person in your life.
3. Spending the Night
Now you may think that I count this as a big step because spending the night could mean it's the first time you are being seen naked or without makeup on. Yes, those are two huge things but I count this as a big step because it could be the first time you see where this person lives! You learn A LOT about someone based on their house. You can learn about their style, food habits, and how clean (or dirty) they are. These are all huge factors in any relationship!
4. Going on Vacation
I totally think that going on a vacation together is a HUGE step. If you and your partner don't live together this vacation could be the first time you are with one another for an extended period of time. Traveling can also bring out the worst in people. I've been thinking about this a lot lately since Eli and I are headed off on our first solo trip. Before planning your first trip I would just make sure you think you'd be okay being with this person for days on end and recognize when traveling, tensions could be a bit higher than usual!
5. Getting a Pet
While pets are cute, cuddly and make life fun they are also a huge commitment and responsibility. Getting a pet with your partner really bonds you together- for years in fact! Before you decide to take this step make sure you are prepared for this bonding commitment.
