Hello all! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and fabulous weekend! I had three days off from work which was such a needed break. I got to spend time with my friends and family which was exactly what I needed after several busy work weeks! Now comes the busy holiday season.
The holidays are supposed to be full of joy and happiness, but I find that I get VERY stressed. I am not one to stress out about seeing family and friends, cooking a lovely dinner, or the cold weather, but I get stressed out over gift giving! To me, gift giving comes with a lot of pressure. I worry about finding the right gift, at the right price, for the right person, with the right meaning. I usually can make pretty good guesses on what my friends want and not get too stressed, but when it comes to getting something for a boyfriend I do not stay calm.
I put so much pressure on myself to find the right thing. I want to make sure the gift shows how much I care and while not making it look like I'm trying to hard. Crazy, I know but it is what it is. I have felt this way with every relationship I've been in. I have no idea why I get this way, but I realize it is something I need to not freak out over.
I came to this realization as I was talking to Eli about all of the gifts I need to buy. I also mentioned to him how nervous I was that I would never find the perfect gift for him. He looked at me and said "I know people say this a lot, but I mean it. Anything you get me I will love because it doesn't matter what it is. It just matters that you took the time." Even though I have heard that before, hearing it from someone you care about makes a huge difference. It made me take a step back and not put so much emphasis on getting the right thing. It also helped me get back into the holiday spirit.
I encourage all of you to take a step back and not stress out over the little things this holiday season. Take the time to remember what gift giving is all about and enjoy the time with loved ones.
