Hi everyone! Today I wanted to spend some time talking about how to get ready for a first date. Of course there are hair, clothing, and makeup decisions to make in order to be ready, but I want to talk about how to prepare emotionally. First dates are scary, no doubt about that. I remember every time I've gone on a first date I had at least a few butterflies in my stomach. Some nights I had more than others, depending on how much I liked the guy. But, it always helped that I mentally prepared for the dates. Now, I am not saying you need to spend hours on hours talking yourself up to going, calming down, and making a production out of it. I am saying that there is something to be said for taking a little time to think about the date, and remind yourself that having fun is the most important thing. Take a look at some tips I think help calm those first date nerves!
1. Relax: Yes, I know, so much easier said than done. But, remembering to remain calm and relaxed is super important. If you do into a date thinking about how anxious you are going to be, chances are you will. If you go in with a relaxed mind set that will shine through.
2. Take the pressure off yourself: Many times when we go on a first date we put so much pressure on ourselves to impress. Remember, this is only a first date. You don't need to put so much pressure on yourself to impress and make your date fall in love with you right then and there. I think it is necessary to remind yourself that you don't need to act like the "perfect" guy or "perfect" girl. Just do what comes naturally and I bet your date will like that better.
3. Be yourself: Very cliche, but so true. Similar to my last point, on a first date many people want to impress their date, and sometimes do this by putting up a front. As I said before, remove that pressure, but now comes an extra step of taking that pressure off and remaining genuine. Acting like someone you aren't isn't a good way to create the foundation of a long lasting relationship.
4. Have fun: Remember this is just a date! Dating is supposed to be fun and relaxed, it isn't supposed to create massive pressure or stress. Try your best to just have a good time no matter what the situation is. If you can laugh along the way that makes for a great night and an even better story down the road!
5. Listen: It is natural to always be thinking about what you'll say next on a date and always have an answer at the ready. But, doing this sometimes makes it hard for us to actually listen to what our dates are saying, take it in, and respond accordingly. Go with the flow and if your date says something that inspires a completely new conversation, go with it. Listening to them and following their lead is sometimes the best way to go about a date. It is really natural this way and even makes it easier to get to know one another.
